History and Milestones

May 2017— The NCPO in Thailand established the Committee for the Promotion of Economic and Financial Cooperation (CPEF) to enhance higher education by bringing expertise, best practices, and resources from high-potential foreign institutions.
Oct 2017— KMITL took the lead in initiating a collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), this partnership culminated in the formal signing of a declaration in Pittsburgh to establish CMKL University.
Oct 2017— CMKL University was officially established under Agreement No. 1/2017 with the CPEF, in partnership with renowned foreign higher education institutions. Operating as a non-profit institution in Thailand.
Nov 2017— In a strategic move to accelerate innovation, CMKL University has partnered with ThaiBev, securing significant research funding to create a state-of-the-art research lab. offering scholarships, and fostering talents to drive the future of these fields.
Dec 2017— CMKL begins a pioneering collaboration with Betagro to develop AI-driven applications for agriculture, aiming to revolutionize the industry while providing invaluable research opportunities for scholars.
June 2018— CMKL forms a significant partnership with the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), working together to develop a cutting-edge cybersecurity mission platform.
Jul 2018— CMKL University has appointed a Board of Trustees with leaders from top global educational institutions, industries, and key government sectors. This collaboration sets a strong foundation for the university’s growth and success.
May 2019— CMKL signs an MOU to develop a technology platform for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), aiming to enhance the stock market exchange and its technological infrastructure.


Aug 2019— CMKL celebrates a major milestone as the first batch of graduate students from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) program is successfully enrolled. This program, in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), offers a dual degree opportunity, allowing students to earn two degrees upon graduation.
Jul 2020— CMKL pioneered the development of a national AI research infrastructure platform in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to efforts in data-driven decision-making and expanding research collaboration with public organizations.
Jul 2020— CMKL collaborates on the Disaster Relief Drones Project with Friends in Need (of "PA"), building technology to assist in emergency response efforts and enhance disaster relief capabilities.

Aug 2020— CMKL launches its first homegrown graduate program, the Technology and Creative Innovation (TCI) program. This multidisciplinary program brings together technologists, business developers, and creative professionals to foster innovation across multiple sectors.
Sep 2020— With the support of a PMU-C grant, CMKL develops an automatic speech recognition interface for the Thai language (Porjai), designed to assist community e-commerce with Dialect AI, enabling greater accessibility and ease for users in diverse dialects.
Jan 2021— CMKL collaborates with the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) on the development of electronic transferable records, streamlining the process of document transfers and improving digital transaction systems.
Mar 2021— CMKL signs an MOU with Newton Sixthform, establishing a new partnership aimed at fostering academic growth and collaboration in education and innovation.

Mar 2021— CMKL collaborates with PTTEP, Thailand's largest oil and gas company, to develop a monitoring and cybersecurity platform with an automated access system, focusing on data analytics and enhanced cybersecurity measures.
Apr 2021— CMKL signs an MOA with the School of Engineering, launching a unified program that offers both bachelor's and master's degrees in Technology and Creative Innovation (TCI), designed to foster a seamless academic progression for students.
Jul 2021— CMKL forms an MOU with the School of Medicine (KMITL), initiating an exchange program for students, faculty, and resources, enhancing academic cooperation, and broadening opportunities for collaborative healthcare research.
Aug 2021— CMKL launches its comprehensive AICE program, offering Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees. This initiative strengthens the AI engineering workforce and contributes to the ongoing development of the AI ecosystem.
Feb 2022— CMKL collaborates with Bumrungrad Hospital on a research project focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) for advancing healthcare technology and innovation.
May 2022— CMKL initiates the formation of AIEI (Artificial Intelligence and Engineering Institute) and establishes its constitution in collaboration with top institutions.

Nov 2024— CMKL partners with Bangchak Corporation and King Mongkut’s Hospital (KMCH) on medical tool research, aiming to innovate and enhance healthcare solutions through advanced technology.
Dec 2024— CMKL signs an MOU with the University of Nevada to facilitate exchange programs for visiting students and faculty, as well as collaborative research initiatives and academic training within cultural programs.
