When I earned my bachelor’s degree, I was just an ordinary graduate with nothing particularly special. I questioned myself—what should I do? What should I become? This seems to be a common situation for many Thai graduates. I didn’t see myself working for an organization until retirement, and I wanted to value myself more than that. After starting my first job as a web developer, I discovered my love for learning new knowledge from senior colleagues and passing it on to newcomers. I treasure the moments when people experience the joy of understanding complex concepts. However, I soon realized that my problem-solving and research skills were limited when I had to find solutions for client projects.I was advised to pursue a master’s degree to develop these skills, though I knew little about graduate studies at the time. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of not thoroughly researching my options before applying. As a result, I struggled during my master’s program, lacking direction on what field or topic to focus on for my research. I spent my first semester taking courses and trying to figure out why I was really there. Luckily, my experience as a teaching assistant in many courses confirmed that being an educator was the right path for me. It became clear how much I enjoyed teaching others and witnessing the joy in their eyes when they finally understood a concept. This realization led me to pursue a Ph.D. to challenge my abilities and create opportunities to teach students at every level.During my research years, I was someone who understood structure and processes very well, but I sometimes struggled with using creativity to innovate new ideas. However, I found immense value in developing something that others could use and appreciate.
I realized that ensuring security and privacy in computer systems not only builds a reliable ecosystem but can also significantly improve people's quality of life in ways we often overlook. You might imagine that building an AI model with consciousness could significantly reduce human labor, but how can we ensure that it won’t attempt to conquer the world and lead to human extinction? Through this journey, my achievements and mistakes have shaped me into a better version of myself.
I have always reminded myself that "The road to success is determined by the liters of your sweat." The key takeaway from my story is that I may not always be at the top, but if you know what you are meant to do, pursue it without hesitation. Skills can be developed through effort, but nothing changes if you remain in your comfort zone.
