Expertise:
Narrative Design | Interactive Digital Media | EdTech | Content Publishing
As a game developer with a focus on narrative design and the structure of story, my own story naturally starts with the classic games that transformed a niche hobby into a $200 billion global industry. A novel immerses the mind and a film the senses, but games manage to engage our willpower and sense of personal agency. It was this realization that drove me into the industry. It’s a remarkable evolution in art and storytelling, when considered from this perspective.
Of course - life is never so simple as all that. It was challenging to get and maintain work in such a competitive and creative environment, and in such a desirable role. My expertise expanded outward into any interactive design that allowed for reactive and variable-driven narrative constructions. This is particularly in demand in the even more sizable education technology (EdTech) industry. Combining the curriculum design and lesson writing of EdTech with the specific skills developed in the gaming industry, and I suppose you get an Assistant Professor of Narrative Design.
The project I’m most proud of is the URD 2 Project called Sonar, which is an audiobook app specifically to allow greater knowledge accessibility to the visually impaired here in Thailand. The team has done remarkable work in building a comprehensive text-to-speech (TTS) model for Thai, alongside the capacity to scan any physical book and convert it into audiobook format using optical character recognition (OCR) for permanent access. Translation capabilities are next up on the worklist, which will also drastically expand access.
