Graduate Program
Course Load
Graduate students are advised to take 36 units of coursework per semester due to the program’s intensity. However, students may register for up to the maximum units per semester. Those considering 48 units or more should consult their academic advisor to develop a time management plan.
Adding Courses
Students may add courses beginning at their allocated registration time until the add/drop deadline. After the deadline, students must submit a Course Add Request Form, signed by the course instructor, to their academic advisor and CUBE for approval.
Dropping and Withdrawing from Courses
- Dropping Courses: Students may drop courses until the add/drop deadline. Courses dropped before the deadline will not appear on transcripts. To minimize disruptions, students should drop courses as soon as they decide not to take them.
- Withdrawing from Courses: If withdrawing after the drop deadline but before the semester ends, students must submit a Course Withdrawal Request Form signed by their academic advisor to CUBE for processing. A "W" grade will appear on the transcript, but it does not affect QPA. However, the course units count toward the maximum limit.
Undergraduate Program
Registering for Competencies
Students in the B.Eng. AiCE program use the A1CE competency-based software to plan their learning paths each semester. Adding a competency milestone is similar to registering for a traditional course but with greater flexibility.
Students may add competencies until the add/drop deadline. After the deadline, formal approval from the responsible instructor is required. If a competency is dropped, it will not appear on the transcript, but previously demonstrated skills will be saved in the A1CE platform.
Full-Time Requirements
Undergraduates registered as full-time students by the second week of any semester must remain full-time for that semester. Full-time status is defined as committing to at least 36 credit units per semester.
- If a student's commitment falls below 36 units, they must obtain program director approval to remain in the program.
- CMKL recommends a maximum of 60 credit units per semester, though higher loads may be approved for students demonstrating exceptional capability or need.
- Students who exceed 60 units but fail to complete their competencies satisfactorily may be restricted from taking more than 60 units in future semesters.
